40 mothers, 20 professional and 20 nonprofessional, each with a child in kindergarten, of average or above average socioeconomic status are chosen as subjects in this study. The purpose is to find out the effects of mother's employment in relation to child-rearing methods and family living in early childhood as it compares with the nonprofessional mothers under the present situation in Taiwan. By means of the modified mother's interview schedule of Sears' and Wang's, some results reflect significant differences between these two groups. But on the whole, most items are not significant enough. After the industrial revolution in England and Europe, maternal empolyment has become a great concern for sociologists, psychologists, even pediatrics and philanthropists. |
