A study on the growth of asparagus seedlings of different varieties, different seed sources and with various seeding times has shown some interesting results, such as: early and uniform germination under optimum temperature (25-30℃) condition; good primary growth under cooler temperature (25℃); no varietal differences in height of stalks and length of storage roots; varietal differences; in dormancy; varietal differences in number of stalks and storage roots and diameter of storage roots; no significant difference in total fresh weight between varieties (Mary Washington 500 and Mary Washington (Taiwan); difference in width length. ratio and number of compound buds of crown exists between varieties (Mary Washington (Taiwan) with smaller ratio and less buds). In accordance to the Taiwan Provincial Standard of Asparagus Seedlings for Setting, the seedlings from UC 309 seeded in May and Mary Washington 500 and Mary Washington (Taiwan) seeded in June, all met the standard within 3 months. |
