Sand and the mixture of sand and N. G vermiculite (1:1) Wale used as the rooting media when 10cm depth shallow plastic basket was used as a container. Nine nutrient solutions were formulated by the Arnon and Hoagland (1940), Hoagland and Snyder (1933). Hewitt's Loaf Ashton solution (1966), Shive and Rivvuas (Ⅰ and, Ⅱ, 1912) Robbins (1946), and Bentley's Glenhazel formulas (summer, greens and spinach, 1959). As regards growth and yield of edible amaranth (Amarantthus mangostanus L.) grown in summer season, the Arnon and Hoaglond (1940) solution showed highly significant superiority and the lowest yield was produced by Shive and Robbins (New Jersy) solutions. High yields were associated with high N and K level (200 ppm), the relatively low yield from the N. J. solutions were due to the low K (59.90 ppm) and N (56.146 ppm) level; the best chemical compositions in this study is: KNO3, 0.01M; Ca (NO3)2, 0.003M; MgSO4, 0.002M and NH4H2PO4, 0.002M. |
