1. Germination of mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) spore is stimulated by the volatile metabolite of the living mycelium of the same species. 2. Germination is stimulated by the treatment of 10 ppm acetaldehyde which is one of the metabolic gases of the living mycelium. No stimulating effect has been shown by the same concentration of other volatile metabolites, namely ethyl alcohol, ethyl acetate, acetone and a complex treatment of these four chemicals in same concentration of 10 ppm. 3. A concentration of 10 ppm, of iso-valeric acid and iso-amyl alcohol were shown the stimulation of spore germination, but tin evidence that acetylene was a stimulant. 4. A fresh spore is more significant on chemical treatment to stimulate the germination of mushroom spore. |
