The purpose of this investigation is to try to realize the mode of translocation of photosynthates in Concord grape by using ¹⁴C-labelled sucrose as tracer. When vines with single shoot were vertically or horizontally trained, a 30-day-old leaf on the midsection of shoot was treated with ¹⁴C-sucrose. Both the leaf on the vertical shoot or horizontal shoot translocate the ¹⁴C-compounds into leaves and mainly into the roots. Nevertheless, when horizontally trained, the ¹⁴C-compounds were mostly accumulated in upper portion of the transporting leaf. When vertically trained, the ¹⁴C-compounds were equally translocated to the upper and lower portion of the shoot. Grapevines with two shoots, one was vertically trained and the other was horizontally trained, a 25-day-old leaf on the midsection of the vertical shoot or the horizontal shoot was treated with ¹⁴C-sucrose. Both the leaf transport the ¹⁴C-compounds basipetally to the roots, Nevertheless, the leaf on the vertical shoot also transport equal amount of ¹⁴C-compounds into the horizontal shoot and the vertical shoot, and the one on the horizontal shoot transport ¹⁴C-compounds mainly within the lateral shoot. |
