Floral bud break of 1-year-old rooted cuttings of 'Premier' peach was observed following chilling treatment at 7°C. The peaches grown in woven bag received 10, 20 and 30 days chilling treatment, their days from end of treatment to 50% floral bud break were 88, 29 and 26 days respectively. The optimum chilling requirement of 'Premier' peach was estimated to be between 10 and 20 days; belonging to the low chilling requirement cultivars. This results showed that container grown 'Premier' at low altitude as a mean for high density planting is feasible. The economic consideration for other means of chilling treatment needs further study. |
