Newly harvested potatoes were treated with sprouting inhibitors CIPC or MENA, then stored at 10°C, 80% RII. During storage, sprouting of tubers was inhibited effectively by the treatment of CIPC at concentration of 500-1000 ppm. The quality of potatoes retained well and reducing sugar remained at a low level all year round. However, sprouting was only inhibited three months, in those potatoes treated with MENA even at a concentration of 10,000 ppm, When potatoes pretreated with CIPC or MENA were stored at ambient temperature (ca. 30°C), serious decay of tubers occurred after storage for three months. |
