Results of this study were divided into three parts: correlation of characters, analysis variance of variety components and superior plants selection. 1. Correlation of characters: (1). Yield of individual asparagus plant is very significantly correlated positively with number of stalks and crown size. Medium stalks were found good for yield. (2). Number of spears is very significantly correlated positively with number of stalks. (8). The height of first branch of stalks is very sigificantly Correlated positively with tightness of spear tip. (4). Mean stalks number is very significantly correlated positively with crown size. (5). Yield of individual asparagus plant is very significantly correlated positively with the height of stalks on U. C 711 variety, and is significantly on U.C309 variety. Above these conclusions were based on investigating the plant characters at winter season. (6). Plants with more taller stalks were resistant to disease during the summer season. Results of this study would be used for reference and performance on selective breeding in Taiwan. 2. Analysis variance of variety components showed 8 % for total yield and TA 96 for first grade yield. 3. After twice selection for superior plants 102 and 106 plants were selected for U. C 309 and U. C 711, respectively. Each of the superior plants was cut into 5 to 10 divisions which were planted on February, 1976 for the continuation of this study. |
