Much of the focus of contemporary landscape planning relates to the dynamics and impacts of the expanding global megapolis. Greenway not only becomes a form of strategic postmodern consensus building among the fragmented landscape pattern, but is also a global response toward sustainable landscape planning recently. However, there is little argument on terminology so that communication and knowledge/experience exchange are limited. This paper offers a discussion of the developmental context, definition, characteristics and relating discoursive argument of 'Greenway', which has been applied to a wide range of landscape ecological planning strategies, concepts and plans. Then, this paper tries to propose a working framework of the planning and practice of Urban Landscape Ecological Network in Metropolitan Taipei by way of greenway planning integrated into comprehensive planning. Through this discussion and application, greenway is considered as a useful strategy for planning, design and management of sustainable landscapes. |
