Language and culture are two facets of the same entity. When teaching Business Chinese, how a teacher integrates cultural content and conducts cultural teaching is a critical issue. Since the teaching of culture has a direct impact on foreign business people's social manners and success in doing business, teaching and learning culture in Business Chinese curricula can be crucial. The focus of this research thus lies in exploring useful cultural teaching strategies in Business Chinese curriculum. The research first begins with analysis of learning needs and teaching material, followed by an in-depth qualitative study of practitioners' views and teaching methodology. It concludes with three different Business Chinese Cultural Teaching Styles: “Business Content Based Audiolingual Method”, “Business Cultural Task-Based Approach”, and a method that yields a deeper immersion experience--“Business Culture Experiential Method”. Finally, useful teaching steps and a prospectiveresearch framework are recommended for future research and teaching practice. |
