The purposes of this action research were to understand the students’ learning process andperformances by implementing Guided Writing instruction combined with inspirational quotes,and to promote writing competency of fourth graders in an elementary school. The participantswere 29 fourth-grade students in Happy Elementary School in Taichung City. This researchwas conducted twice a week, 40 minutes per period, and a total of 13 weeks. In addition, theresearcher analyzed and concluded the collected data such as worksheets, writing performances,students’ learning feedbacks, teaching reflection notes, teaching videos, class observation andunstructured interviews recordings to further understand the student’s learning process and performances.The conclusions of the study were summarized as follows: 1. Guided Writing instruction combined with inspirational quotes was implemented by threelearning activities: warm up, writing practice and extended activities. Researcher took threestageteaching involving “Imitation Writing, Expansion Writing, Continue Writing, and AppliedWriting” and summed up three difficulties during the research; then proposed somestrategies to solve them. 2. The student’s writing competency can be promoted through Guided Writing instruction combinedwith inspirational quotes. 3. Implementing Guided Writing Instruction combined with inspirational quotes makes researcherunderstand more about the curriculum design and teaching methods for cultivatingstudents’ writing competency. |
