Kua-á is treasury of folk knowledge. To understand the multi-faceted folk life in Taiwan, kua- á served as an important information source. “Food” can be found in either individual kua- á or collections of longer kua- á narratives, indicated common people's inclination to use things around their lives for rhetorical expression. The rhetoric of food in kua- á is still lacking attention from the academia. In this study, I followed the fu, bi, xing classification of folk song studies to analyze kua- á. Drawing examples from a wide selection of kua- á, I will explicate the following, elaboration of banquet dishes as one's imagination of exquisite feasts; food as lust for his or her beloved; and a preparation of a banquet which led to a love scene of a couple in beds. |
