A full-scale 3-story 3-bay CFT buckling restrained braced frame(CFT/BRB) specimen was constructed and tested in the structural laboratory of National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering(NCREE) in Taiwan using pseudo dynamic test procedures and internet tesing techniques in October of 2003 to study the seismic performance of such system. This project focuses on the nonlinear response prediction and simulation of the CFT/BRB frame specimen. The test frame were loaded using pseudo-dynamic procedures to simulate the responses under ground motions corresponding to earthquake hazards for a high-seismicity site with 50%, 10%, and 2% chance of exceedance in 50 years. Inelastic static and dynamic time history analyses were conducted using OpenSees(Open System for Earthquake Engineering Simulation) and PISA3D(Tsai and Lin 2003), developed at Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center(PEER) and National Taiwan University, respectively. Nonlinear dynamic analysis illustrate that the peak story drift is likely to reach 0.025 radian after applying the 2/50 design earthquake on the frame specimen. Further, the experimental responses of the specimen also demonstrate great agreement with the predictions. |
