The purpose of the research was to evaluate the seismic performance of segmental precast concrete piers with the proposed connection details by means of physical testing. A two-phase experimental program was designed to achieve this objective. The first-phase experiment focused on the testing of the critical connection of the segmental pier. It examined the various design parameters of the critical connection affecting the seismic performance of the pier. The results of the first-phase testing were then used to design the specimens in the second-phase experiment. The second-phase experiment tested the bridge piers as a whole including the critical connections and the other connections.
