In the past, the repair of traditional buildings in Taiwan emphasized on the recovery of the appearance. The upgrading of seismic capacity for traditional historical buildings was ignored before the Chi-Chi earthquake(September 21, 1999). This paper focuses on historic buildings with traditional timber frames, which are the majority in listed historic buildings. The applying of new materials and high technologies is allowed in the retrofitting of historical buildings in the new Taiwan law, thus several seismic resistant technologies for traditional timber structures are proposed and discussed in this paper. |
