Detailed investigation into how the highly nonlinear structures in the universe continue to form from the initial smooth and homogeneous matter distribution to the present highly clumpy distribution involves demanding hydrodynamics computation. The computational domain needs to be at least 300 million lightyears, whereas the space resoluton at least 100 thousand lightyears. The required wide spatial range is due, in part, to the high-density contrast, over four orders of magnitude, in order to identify the formation sites of galaxies. One strategy for dealing with this demanding task is to treat the gas elements as particles, i.e., the method of Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics(SPH) . |
