Evidence indicates that voice and oromotor dysfunction manifest early, prior to motor deficits in Parkinson disease (PD). More and more patients are found to suffer from voice and oromotor symptoms before motor symptoms present. However, these symptoms are not only hard to identify clinically, but also bring negative impacts on social interaction, vocalization performance, and quality of life. This article introduces the α-Synuclein(α-Syn) pathology in Parkinson disease which affects oromotor function. Symptoms have been reported to occur very early in the progress of Parkinson disease. Therefore, early initiation of oromotor assessment and voice treatment is recommended. |
