Endoscopy examination is an invasive therapy that can greatly affect a patient's outcome. It was determined that the current average nurse performed health education integrity is 62.8 %. Therefore, this project was to improve the integrity of nurse performed pre-examination health education instructions. Our investigation determined that the reasons for incomplete health education included unfamiliarity to the examination procedures, boring heath education tools, and lack of a standardized procedure for health education. The improvement project was implemented in 2016, from April 16 to September 30. These implementations included establishing endoscopy examination handbook and CD-ROM, revising employee education program, and organizing endoscopy treatment center tours for nurses. The implementation of the established program increased the integrity of endoscopy pre-examination health education from 62.8% to 98.0%. The patient satisfaction for endoscopy pre-examination health education increased from 2.9 to 4.3 (out of 5). The results of this study demonstrated the efficiencies of this program for achieving the established goals, and thus could be valued for its widespread promotion. |
