The theoretical study for predicting exciting forces and motions between two ships advancing in waves, either by two-dimensional method or by three-dimensional method, was successfully developed previously. However no available experimental data can be used to verify the theory. The purpose of the present paper is to establish an experimental set-up to measure the exciting forces and motions between two ships advancing in waves for comparing with the corresponding theoretical calculations. A series of test has been conducted in NCKU towing tank equipped with wave maker. Because of the limitation of the facility, only measurements in longitudinal waves are considered. Although the comparisons between theory and experiment show some discrepancies due to the unavoidable difficulty including the tank wall interference and the clearance keeping, the paper still offers the firsthand data including some useful information to validate the previously developed theories to some extent.
