行與列

Row and Column

「行」與「列」，是彼此對應，無論是在科學或是日常生活口語中，均十分常用的名詞。但是其意涵，在大陸與台灣，正好相反。自雙邊交流開始，「行」與「列」的歧異，便已經為眾人所發現。探討其原因，卻十分難於獲得定論。本文目的不在於定案何者為是，但是期盼藉由文學上的例證以及說文解字原理的討論，吸引學者之興趣。 Row and column is well defined term and commonly applied in both science and daily life. But, the Chinese translation of these two terms in Taiwan is exactly the reverse in mainland. This fact has been identified since the beginning of the across strait science and culture exchange. But, the resulting reason remains mysterious. This article does not intend to verify which is right. It is hoped that the discussion made here could generate interest to this issue.
