A 7-year 10-month-old boy with skeletal Class III malocclusion was treated in two phases. In phaseone, rapid maxillary expansion (RME) and facemask was applied for early intervention in a cervical vertebralmaturation (CVM) stage of CS2. After RME and facemask treatment, decompensation of maxillary andmandibular incisors was noted, as well as an improved skeletal Class III jaw relationship with reduction of theA point-nasion-B point (ANB) angle. Later in phase two, a full mouth fixed edgewise appliance was begun tocorrect the details of malocclusion. The total treatment duration was 5 years and 5 months (stage 1, 9 months;follow-up, 1 year 8 months; stage 2, 3 years). (Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics. 30(1): 31-42, 2018). |
