本文先從語言的兩個外緣因素討論王文興創作時期的文化語境,以作為聯繫探討王文興小說語言主體性生成初期的可能性因素。此二外緣因素為:一是起因於當時使用白話文語體創作困境的不滿與思考;二是在小說的語言和文字的能指關係中,小說語言日漸向文字符號傾斜的觀察與突破。此二外緣因素加之受到當時現代主義思潮的影響,促使王文興在小說語言上的實驗與創新,進而形塑出其獨特的小說語言主體性。後文筆者將以三個角度探討其語言主體性逐漸生成的可能性歷程:一是其在內容上敘事漸趨聚焦的確立過程;二是在語音上辨析省(籍)差異的語音/語境思考與寫作語言;三是在中文語言的能指關係上的移動與擴張,藉此三點探討王文興小說語言的初期演變軌跡及其語言主體性的建立基礎。
