Studies on Adulteration and Misusage of Daji and Xiaoji in Market

於大台北地區採逢機取樣方式價購了大薊、小薊計27件檢體。此27件檢體經性狀特徵及組織切片鏡檢，並與對照藥材及文獻比對，確認14件為大薊（Cirsium japonica DC.），11件為雞角刺（Cirsium albescens Kitam.），2件為線葉薊[Cirsium lineare (Thunb.) Sch.-Bip]。其中2件大薊來自同一家中藥店，卻以大薊、小薊之名分開販售；27件檢體皆為菊科（Compositae）之薊屬（Cirsium spp.）植物，卻未有小薊[刺兒菜（Cirsium segetum Bunge）]出現。由此可見目前市售之大薊、小薊之基原頗為混亂。

The origin of Daji is the root of Cirsium japonicum DC. And the origin of Xiaoji is the herb of Cirsium segetum Bunge. In this study, we purchased twenty-seven samples of Daji and Xiaoji from twenty-five Chinese herbal stores in Taipei area to identify the origins by morphology and microscopy methods, and to compare with the authentic materials.The result showed that, among the twenty-seven samples of Daji and Xiaoji, 14 samples were identified and confirmed as Cirsium japonicum DC.(大薊), 11 samples were Cirsium albescens Kitam.(雞角刺), and 2 were Cirsium lineare (Thunb.) Sch-Bip. (線葉薊). None of the samples was a genuine Cirsium segetum Bunge. One of the herbal stores sold the samples of Cirsium japonicum DC. under the name of either Daji or Xiaoji in the market. The adulteration and misusage between Daji and Xiaoji are serious in the present market.
