When treating patients with teeth mal-alignment and crowding, orthodontists have many strategies to gain the space. This article reviews the conventional methods which focus on molar distalization and arch expansion, rather than tooth extraction and temporary anchorage devices. The outcome of treatment with pendulum, distal jet, rapid maxillary expansion, and lip bumper were evaluated from various aspects. The aims of the literature review are to help orthodontists formulate an optimized treatment plan and predict treatment outcome and limitation in acquiring space by molar distalization and arch expansion. |
