The boundary stiffness effects of the plates clamped by wedge-lock retainers are studied in this paper. The natural frequencies of the plates estimated by a procedure using Seireg's empirical formula for rotational stiffness are compared with those from modal testing and finite element modeling. When a rectangular plate is clamped by wedge-lock retainers, it is verified that its natural frequencies are between those of plates with clamped boundary conditions and those of plates with simply supported boundary conditions. Based on Seireg's empirical formula, the errors of natural frequency for the first two modes are 7.18% and-2.31%, while the errors of natural frequency, based on the least square error criteria, are 4.38% and -4.09%. The comparison reveals the practicability of our estimation procedure for the boundary rotational stiffness of wedge lock retainers. |
