Oedipus: The Reader of the Text of his Fate

本論文旨在運用伍爾夫‧以瑟在其論文〈閱讀歷程：一個現象學方法〉中所顯示的閱讀心理歷程來詮釋希臘悲劇《伊底帕斯王》中主角伊底帕斯在找尋事實真相中的心理理解過程。本劇中主角伊底帕斯在找尋殺死前任國王兇手的真相過程中，透過其他角色提供的訊息終於知曉事實真相的整個歷程，與伍爾夫‧以瑟論文中所揭示的讀者理解閱讀文本歷程似有相似之處。

The purpose of this paper is to interpret Oedipus Rex in terms of Wolfgang Iser's theory of reading as manifested in his essay 'The Reading Process: a Phenomenological Approach.' Reading Oedipus Rex, the reader may get the impression that through putting together the various pieces of information as offered by several characters in the play, the protagonist Oedipus is able to discover the truth of his life. And this process of discovering the hidden truth is very similar to the process that a reader undergoes in making out a text.
