Defoe’s Roxana is a novel about the story of a woman going through life, gaining experiences, and becoming mature. The process of her growing awareness of the way life is fascinates the reader and is one of the focuses of the novel. Reading the novel, the reader may see that her story is about her relationships with men, with her maid Amy and her daughter Susan. Through these relationships, Roxana develops her character by the experiences she gains from them. The purpose of this paper is thus to see how Roxana develops her character from these relationships.
