Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), a global health alert beginning in March 2003, also affected Taiwan and caused public panic and unprecedentedly crippled the economy. In December of the same year, avian influenza had spread across Korea, Japan and Vietnam. Since then, countries around the world reported several high/low pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI/LPAI) outbreaks. |
