Concerning the importance of object exhibitions to a museum, this study first aimed to discuss its origin, nature and development, based on the theoretical dimension. It then explored an exhibition focused on a single object as a case study. After conducting surveys and performing analyses, the visitors' actual feelings were determined; and it also combined the findings of both theory and practice. It is hoped that the perspective regarding object exhibitions held by contemporary museums can be reconsidered. The research conclusion revealed that the acceptance and affirmation of object exhibition were highly praised by visitors: the “messages” conveyed by the presented objects can be proffered by using various media, so that different levels and aspects of the message can be highlighted, and the restrictions regarding touch and operated mechanism of objects can be broken. Meanwhile, visitors can experience entertainment and opportunities for participation. Although object exhibitions have gradually been replaced by participative exhibits, objects are still irreplaceable; they possess authenticity and value. Although object exhibitions are untouchable and can only be seen, they can still add to individuals' knowledge. However, visitors can gain abundant knowledge and experience joy from integrated different methods of presenting object exhibitions. |
