Goal: Exploring the process of establishing a special education class and the effectiveness of the class Methods: According to action research, the process of establishment is divided to 5 stages. 1. Period of preparation: writing a proposal, integrating the resource and finding the source of financing. 2. Period of promotion: making the leaflets, and holding a press conference. 3. Officially beginning: the special education class of junior high school began in 1998/10. 4. Extending the class to senior high school: providing service for students of senior high school in1999/11. 5. Officially beginning of senior high school: graduated students were able to get official certification from Bureau of Education in 2002/11. Results: 1. During the 18 years, the class has help total 137 students. 93 students graduated from the classes successfully, 24 students returned to their previous schools, and 20 students found employment in community. 2. Ever year by cooperating with 20 to 22 high schools, the class was effective in helping these schools to deal with the adolescents with emotional-behavior disturbance. 3.Increasing the quality of special education and executing the laws about special education. 4. Every year the class provides the training opportunities and visit for 30 special education teachers and for 50 graduate students of special education. Clinical application: The class combined special education with psychiatric rehabilitation will help the adolescents with mental disorder or emotional disturbance keep going to school in day hospital. |
