This paper described a nursing experience of a child with recurrent bacterial meningitisassociated with Mondini dysplasia. The nursing period lasted from May 29 to June 21, 2014.With Gordon’s health functional patterns as framework and data collected via observationand listening, the patient’s health problems were found to be acute pain, hyperthermia, andfear. The author discovered during the nursing period that the patient frequently crying andrefused treatment, and the patient’s mother was perplexed by the rapid relapse. The authorco-developed a care plan with the patient’s mother through listening and encouragement, relieved the patient’s fear towards treatment by introducing his favorite toy during treatment, and provided the primary caregiver with disease and care information. We hope that thisholistic assessment nursing experience could serve as a reference when caring for patientswith similar conditions. (Tzu Chi Nursing Journal, 2017; 16:6, 127-136). |
