Seafarer workplace belongs to a special category of working environments. The accidents caused by seafarer fatigue have been increasing year after year. Literature have indicated that seafarer fatigue mainly results from the nature of the work and the environment, such as voyages, shipping routes, berthing frequency, work shift, etc. However, does fatigue affect on-duty seafarers, working attitudes? Based on an IMO circular where seafarer fatigue are divided into four types, accompanying with two items from the Workplace Fatigue Scale created by a Taiwanese scholar, this study explored this issue with six aspects. A questionnaire was conducted to Taiwanese merchant ship seafarers to collect relevant data which were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) to explore the relationships between seafarer fatigue and job related attitudes. The results revealed that fatigue perception is reliable and it has a significant negative influence on seafarers , work satisfaction. This study carried out an in-depth analysis and investigation of the results and generated relevant discussion, hoping to provide benefits to the issue of reducing seafarers , fatigue. |
