Taiwan is projected to reach the criteria of aged society when over 14% population is older than 65 years old and will become a super-aged society in 2026 when over 20% population is above 65 years old. Long term care and medical care needs will increase persistently. Executive Yuan started out 10-year long term care plan 2.0 since 2016 to integrate long term care and medical services. The new plan not only meets the care need but also may share the resources to improve service efficiency and quality. Primary care physicians offer accessible, comprehensive, continuous, coordinative and accountable medical services and play an important role in home, community and institution types of long term care services. Participating in the long term care may give full play to the role of primary care services. The collaboration with other community-based service providers may assist disabled people to receive community-based long-term care services and achieve the idea of aging in place. |
