張君勱與「中國文化與世界」宣言──其想法及訴求

Carsun Chang and A Manifesto on the Reappraisal of Chinese Culture: Some Remarks on his Idea and Appeal

〈「中國文化與世界」宣言〉是中國近代知識史以及哲學思潮發展上的一個重要文獻。其共同署名發表者──牟宗三、徐復觀、張君勱、唐君毅以及英文版所多加的謝幼偉，他們並且就在這〈宣言〉的核心觀念下為中國現代哲學乃至思想史的發展做出了一個共締普遍哲學的貢獻。然此〈宣言〉在今日雖已為學者所熟知，但其撰成的經過，卻仍未有明確的考論。本文即嘗試藉由重探唐君毅與張君勱共同有感於西方學者忍將中國文化作為死病者來進行驗屍工作的激憤，詳檢其諸人之相關的自敘文字、書信等等文獻來重構當時的撰作過程，並進而指出特別是唐君毅與張君勱對此〈宣言〉所懷抱的想法和訴求，同時並澄清一些不甚的當的曲解。

A Manifesto on the Reappraisal of Chinese Culture signed by Mou Zongsan, Xu Fuguan, Zhang Junmai, Tang Junyi in the year 1958 and Xie Youwei on the occation of publishing English version in 1960 is an important document for the modern Chinese inttectual history. The members who signed the Manifesto in fact have made their contribution to the modern Chinese philosophy and even idea history under the motive and understanding of this appealing. However the real history of preparing this Manifesto do not make known in many treatises. In this paper I try to expose the course of idea exchange and the resolving of opinion clash in according to the published writings and some unpublished letters by these co-signers of the Manifesto. In this paper I treat especially Tang and Zhang's idea and appeal in preparing the Manifesto, and too to treat their disagreement about that should publish the English or Chinese version at first.
