This study determines whether a research gap exists in terms of urban climate governance in Taiwan relative to the global trend via a systematic review of urban climate change literature and that of closely related fields. Roughly 73% of Taiwan’s residents live in areas prone to natural disasters. Human activity, land use, infrastructure and governance in urban areas face new challenges, including those posed by disasters of increasing severity due to climate change. However, discussions in Taiwan are not comprehensive. Most rely on international experiences and theories, or technical reports from government. Hence, this study identifies the missing link in domestic climate change research and urban governance relative to global tendencies. Relevant research topics for the human dimensions of climate change are suggested. |
