本文以《黃繡球》為討論文本，首先針對晚清時期反纏足思潮做一番爬梳，探 討長期以來不被視為「陋習」的纏足風氣，為何於晚清時期有了較突破的反對聲，藉此 凸顯《黃繡球》在晚清時期的特殊性。再者，將黃繡球放腳一事進行文本的深入分析， 主要探討問題為黃繡球放腳的目的為何？以及黃繡球如何推廣放足。最後，討論為什麼 在小說中，忽略並簡化纏腳到放腳的過程，即為黃繡球放腳後的腳力和腳型的恢復情 況，以《采菲錄》中提及纏腳與放腳的相關史料與《黃繡球》對讀，透過史料與小說， 紀實與虛構間的縫隙，對晚清時期放足的相關問題展開再思考，提供另一面向的詮釋與 理解角度。
