Feng Meng Zhen (1548-1606), born in Jiaxing Prefecture Xiushui (present Zhejiang Province Jiaxing County), was first place in Central Examinations in 1577 (fifth year of Wanli, Ming Dynasty). As Huiyuan and Scholar, he became Nanjing Guozijian Jijiu (Principal of Highest Educational Instituition). Feng Meng Zhen is a man of honor and sincere, he has a wide acquaintance, and a lay disciple of one of Ming Dynasty's four high monks, Master Zibo (1543-1603). He devoted his life to Buddhism and knows many monks and lay Buddhists, he also plays an important and iconic role in the late Ming literary world. Private books collection was very popular in Ming's Jiaxing District, there were many famous book collectors and printers, as a part of Jiaxing, Feng Meng Zhen followed the trend and was also into book collecting and printing, achieving the trend of that era. |
