The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness on harm reduction among 5 interventions for patients in methadone maintenance therapy (MMT) in six months. The researchers recruited 70 subjects and assigned them to five groups, 14 members each. The five groups were methadone maintenance therapy only (M), M with health education information condition (ME), ME with solution-focused brief group therapy condition (MESFBGT), ME with SFB individual therapy condition (MESFBIT), and ME with SFB family therapy condition (MESFBFT). The index of harm reduction includes mental and physical wellbeing, family function, and physical illness. The researchers applied t-test to compare the differences between pre and posttest and the covariance analysis to compare the differences among these five groups. T-test resulted significant differences in physical and mental wellbeing, whether it was in MESFBIT, MESFBGT, or MESFBFT. It was also found that the family function in MESFBFT improved significantly after treatment. The covariance analysis did not yield any significant differences among 5 treatment groups. |
