Glossogyne tenuifolia, Hsiang-Ju, is a traditional antipyretic andhepatoprotective herb in Taiwan. A few researches reported that G. tenuifoliaexhibited anti-inflammation, anti-HBV surface antigen expression and proliferationinhibition of cancer cells. This study investigates the effect of the methanol fraction ofG. tenuifolia (GT/MeOH) on monocytic THP-1 differentiation into functionalmacrophage. Under phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) treatment, we found thesurface markers, CD11b and CD83, of monocyte-derived macrophage (MDM) wereincreased with co-treatment of GT/MeOH. The MDM with GT/MeOH treatmentduring differentiation could produce much more IFNα and IFNβ mRNA by LPSstimulation. The phosphorylation of ERK by LPS stimulation was also increased onMDM with GT/MeOH cotreatment. In this study, we demonstrated that G. tenuifoliacould enhance innate immunity via increasing macrophage differentiation frommonocytes. The results in this study could provide strong evidence in the developmentof healthy food of G. tenuifolia on immunity promotion. |
