Guest Editors' Introduction

The four selected papers contained in this Special Issue were originally presented at the Asia Conference on Efficiency and Productivity Growth held in July 2002, at Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan, and organized by Tsu-Tan Fu, Cliff J. Huang, and C. A. Knox Lovell. Over 150 conference participants from 17 countries contributed 67 papers and discussed issues concerning efficiency and productivity growth on both theoretical and empirical frontiers. These four papers survived a rigorous refereeing process and were selected on the basis of originality, quality, and the interest to the readers of this journal. We have entitled the Special Issue “Efficiency and Productivity Growth.”
