This paper investigates the relationship between ecstasy, non- knowledge and eroticism in Bataille's “inner experience' theories. Bataille says that his research has two purposes:one is to study the sacred, the other is to study ecstasy. It is obvious that 'ecstasy' in Bataille's thought system is an extremely important topic. He emphasizes that 'non-knowledge communicates ecstasy,' and he defines his philosophy as 'an unknown object in the new theology.' It seems that 'ecstasy' and 'non-knowledge' occupy a very important position in Bataille's contemplation of inner experience thought. As Bataille says, 'there is no distinction between eroticism and mystery'. From the perspective of inner experience, what kind of relationship exists between the erotic and the mysterious? This paper addresses these questions so as to reveal the meanings of the inner experience in Bataille’s philosophical thought, and then analyzes the importance of ecstasy and non-knowledge in mystical experience. Finally, this writing will discuss the inseparable relationship between ecstasy, non-knowledge and eroticism. |
