The present paper aims to investigate multiple-nominative constructions containing adjective predicates in Japanese. Section 1 briefly introduces the purpose and the main contents of the paper, followed by Section 2, which discusses the subcategorizations of Japanese adjectives such as objective-property adjectives (including visional, dimensional, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, tactile, thermal adjectives), intermediate-relational adjectives, intuitive-evaluative adjectives, and subjective adjectives (including sensational and emotive adjectives), along with their respective argument structures and relevant surface realizations. Then, Section 3 examines the semantic functions of the topic marker “wa” and the subject marker “ga” together with their possible combinations and linear orders, followed by Section 4, which deals with the syntactic projections as well as the semantic interpretation of multiple-nominative constructions containing adjective predicates. Finally, Section 5 summarizes the contents and conclusions of the paper. |
