Human papillomavirus (HPV) is strictly related to cervical cancer. There has already been enough evidence that HPV is one of the most important identified causes of cervical cancer. Through comprehensive investigation of HPV, we have a deeper understanding of the carcinogenesis of cervical cancer, and at the same time we advance the research areas of gynecological cancer into the era of modern molecular medicine. This series of reports begin from the HPV basic virology. Firstly, we introduce its historical background and important findings, followed by the basic viral characteristics of the typing, host cell cycle regulation and the respective viral gene function etc. |
