超音波在風濕疾病的診斷及追蹤上是一個有用的影像檢查工具。此篇文章報導兩位均有痛風史的病例出現急性肩關節疼痛。超音波檢查顯現低超音波性的三角肌下（subdeltoid）滑液囊和被低回音液體包圍的高回音物質－－可能是尿酸凝聚物－－於腫脹的肩峰鎖骨（acromioclavicular）關節內。細針抽取三角肌下滑液囊和肩峰鎖骨關節得到分別得到一些液體和一小點白色物質。在極光顯微鏡下顯現monosodium urate。

Ultrasonography is an effective imaging modality for the diagnosis of rheumatic disease and follow-up. This report showed two patients with gout history presented with acute shoulder pain. Ultrasonographic study identified hypoechoic subdeltoid bursa and hypoechoic fluid surrounding the hyperechoic lesion, a possible conglomerate of urate, within the bulging acromioclavicular (AC) joint. Aspiration of the subdeltoid bursa and AC joint yielded some fluid and a small piece of white material, which demonstrated monosodium urate by polarized microscopic study.
