The impression that the product quality was better in the past can be the consequence of applying a planned-obsolescence strategy in the commercial industry. Such strategy can be accepted as the norm in almost every commercial industry. The purpose of this research is to verify if the A19 LED light bulb industry is adopting planned-obsolescence strategies and their effects on customer satisfaction through an industry analysis. A group of experts from different areas was chosen to apply the Delphi method. The results of the Delphi questionnaire, analyzed by the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) approach, displayed no sign of obsolescence of desirability but obsolescence of quality and function in the A19 LED light bulb industry. Although the results also revealed the existence of partial obsolescence of function, that depended on how product performance was interpreted by different actors in the industry. |
