This essay aims at exploring how the female body fluids that take menstruation as core came to be important symbols in contemporary Taiwanese poetry, and showed various wonderful transfiguration. In addition to discussing the performances of three main poets-Xia Yu, Yan Ailin, Jiang Wenyu, also extending to several recently texts written by young authors, then connecting with the correlative writing of Chen Kehua the masculine poet, to discover specially on the modern potency of body fluid symbol in lyric and narrative. These poets mostly step onto the reverse side of “appropriateness”, reveals their disaffection for the social system, as well as desire for “border crossing”. Thus the negative strength contained in body fluids, constitute the new origins of poetic production, at the same time, create opportunities for lyric transforming. |
