In the past two decades, a rapid change in diet and lifestyle has led to excessive intake of calories and fat increasing the prevalence of overweightness and obesity in children and adults in Taiwan. Obesity has becomes an important public health issue and medical problem in both developed and developing countries. The family is the first place that a child develops his or her eating behvior. Children imitate their parents' dietary behaviors or are influenced by food-related parenting practices as they establish their eating habits and patterns. The effect of dietary behaviors of parents on children has consistent results. However, the success of food-related parenting practices vary depending on the childs sex and position in the family as well as parental education level. Therefore, this paper mainly reviews the effect of foodelated parenting styles and dietary behavior on children's eating behavior and their possible effects on weight.
