Objectives. This study assesses the immediate effect of ischemic compression (IC) treatment for myofascial trigger point (MTrP) over upper trapzius muscle. Methods. We recruited 30 subjects with upper trapezius active MTrP. We recorded data before and after IC treatment. Outcomes included focal vascularity by power doppler imaging (PDI), muscle tension by myotonometer, active range of motion by goniometer, and pain by visual analogue scale. Results. All measured parameters improved after IC intervention. The results showed an immediate increase of trapezius muscle vascularity and neck active range of motion (AROM), and decreased muscle tension and pain scale. Conclusion. IC treatment for MTrP has an immediate effect on improvement of pain, AROM, muscle tension and vascularity. |
