Meniere's disease (MD) is characterized by deafness, tinnitus, and episodic vertigo. Several medications or surgical interventions have been reported to successfully treat or alleviate the symptoms. Stellate ganglion block (SGB) is a commonly performed procedure in the pain clinic, and has been employed as treatment for pain syndrome or other disorders in the head and neck regions. However, currently the literature regarding SGB for the treatment of MD is very limited. Herein we report a case of MD, a 24 year-old female, who had been suffering from vertigo and tinnitus for many years. Oral medications had been taken for a long time, without much amelioration of the symptoms. We performed SGB for her on a twice-a-week basis for a total of 20 sessions. The symptoms significantly subsided after 10 weeks of treatment, as well as the changes in electrocochleography (ECOG) were observed. The course of treatment and the strategy to avoid possible severe complications associated with the conduct of SGB will be discussed in our report. |
