Traveling exhibitions have been a fashion in Taiwan in recent years. Traveling exhibitions can not only reach to more people but also be environmental friendly, for the resources can be used for more than once, and they make science education resources more available to the public. Meanwhile, by enhancing cooperation and exchange among museums, traveling exhibitions attain the purpose of promoting museums. However, what kind of exhibition design can be considered to follow the patterns of traveling exhibitions? What are the elements of traveling exhibitions? From traveling exhibitions to exhibition tour, what basic characteristics are needed? What kind of design is more practical and effective? This study looks into the case of “Non-Smoking Paradise Exhibition” on the subject of tobacco hazards prevention, jointly held by National Science and Technology Museum and Bureau of Health Promotion, Department of Health. Starting from the viewpoint of basic needs and elements of traveling exhibition, the discussion reveals the important affairs and techniques that need special attention when museum administrators design a traveling exhibition. The study shows an real experience how the exhibition planning team transform the exhibition that tried to promote a policy on an hackneyed subject and they put the plan into practice successfully. Final, some considerations and suggestions regarding traveling exhibition design are provided. |
